The Silent Tax on Women: How the Pink Tax Keeps You Paying More

Image
Picture this: you walk into a store and you find two identical razors—same brand, same design, same function. The only variation? One is blue and is priced at ₹100, and the other is pink and is priced at ₹130. Well done! You've just fallen victim to the Pink Tax—the quiet add-on women unwittingly pay on mundane products. What is the Pink Tax? The Pink Tax is not literally a government tax but a pricing discrimination tactic whereby items aimed at women are priced higher than their versions for men. This subtle charge is found in personal care products, apparel, toys, and even services such as dry cleaning and haircuts. In addition to taking home 16-20% less than men worldwide, women pay more for basic commodities—an irony that makes independent finance even more difficult. How Are We Trapped? The Pink Tax is so deeply ingrained in consumer culture that most of us don’t even notice it. Here’s how it works: 1. Packaging Manipulation Companies tweak packaging—adding floral designs...

Period Poverty In India And It's Causes

Image
Period Poverty In India And It's Causes Period poverty is a term used to describe living in conditions of severe shortage or lack of basic necessities, such as food, shelter and clothing. It is an issue that disproportionately affects low-income groups and those who are socially marginalized. There are a number of factors that contribute to period poverty in India. One major culprit is economic inequality between rich and poor sections of society. In recent years, periods have become longer due to increasing global warming effects – meaning there’s been an increase in extreme weather events which can cause sudden reductions in agricultural production or lead to natural disasters (such as floods), which can leave communities with little access to food. Another factor is the country’s high levels of illiteracy and poor educational qualifications, which mean that many people are unable to find work or earn a living through conventional means. As a result, they are forced t...

What Is Feminism?

Image
What Is Feminism? Feminism is a social movement that began in the early 19th century and continues to this day. It's a philosophy that advocates for equality between men and women, including equal pay, equal education opportunities, and reproductive rights. Feminism has focused on challenging gender stereotypes and inequality in all areas of life. Image Source: Pexels.com What Is The History Of Feminism? Feminism has been around since ancient Greece and Rome. The concept of womanhood was different then than it is today: there were no laws about marriage or divorce; women were considered property within their clans or tribes. When women became more independent from these groups, they began to speak out against what they saw as unfair treatment by men—and this led to feminist movements around the world! How Does Feminism Differ From Other Movements?  Feminism is not just about equality for women; it's about equality for everyone—men and women alike!  One way to under...

What Is True Feminism And Who Is A True Feminist?

Image
At its root, feminism is about gender equality, not "sameness." Many individuals argue that because women aren't "the same" as males, there can't be equality. In other words, because men and women have different physical capacities and their bodies are different (many argue "weaker" and smaller), equality is not conceivable. It's vital to realise that "equal" does not mean "same." It's all about equal rights and equal access to opportunities in this case. To enjoy the right to equality, men and women do not have to be physically identical. Let's take a look at the pictures attached here, explaining about true feminism and true feminist. Writer:Pragati Dubey
